Welcome to FTE

Since this is the intro section, you won't get many answer, to your issue, here. But, if you go to the Forums tab, at the top of the page, then find, Older, Classic and Antique trucks, then find the corresponding year group, for your truck, you should get more help than you can handle.

Don't forget to check out your state chapter(s) too.

Welcome DMFR! OK, first off, did the engine run before you added the the parts? if yes, did it run after the parts? If no, first off- how old is the gas in the tank? If the gas is a year old, it may not burn. I know what you're thinking, " That gas wasn't cheap". But I would drain it, your choice. Charge the battery up. Then take the metal fuel line off at the fuel pump. Have a helper crank the engine over for a few seconds. Did the fuel come out? If no, check the filter (it's in the metal canister -under the fuel pump- if you have a v-8) If the filter looks good, then loosen the gas tank cap and try blowing air (low pressure) back through the line that comes from the tank to the pump.If the fuel system is all good, and gas is flowing, then take the air filter off and look into the carb. Move the throttle by hand to see if the accelerator pump is squirting a stream of gas into the carb. If it does squirt, you know that you have some gas getting into the carb. Since you know that the fuel system should be working, time to check the firing system. Having the engine at Top Dead Center will help. Double check the firing order and the spark plug wire positions. It's easy to get a wire out of place when replacing them, the plugs, and the cap. Firing order for the V-8s EXCEPT the 351M & 400: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. 351M & 400: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 . The firing order for the 6 cylinder engs: 1-5-3-6-2-4. If you have points they should be gaped at:0.017, or a dwell of 24 - 29 deg. for the V-8s, and for the 6clys: 0.027 or 35 - 40 deg. I'm guessing that you have the spark plugs at 0.030 - 0.035 gap.. If all that is good, take the dist cap off and have a helper crank the engin for a couple of seconds and make sure that the rotor is turning, if yes, install the cap.It should crank and start. If it starts then dies, look for cracked of unhooked vacuum lines. Then check the carb settings. If you get a back-fire you may have timing issues. Let us know how it goes, and where the problem was. It will help the next guy. I just covered the basic troubleshooting, to get you looking. Some of the other guys will can go over it in more detail.
