Hi all - I am in the middle of “refreshing” the 239 (EBV) out of my ‘55 F-100. It’s pretty much disassembled and ready to head off to the machine shop for some work. I ordered a set of replacement piston rings but noticed that the kit doesn’t include the inner springs that the pistons had underneath the middle and bottom rings. According to the parts catalog, the 239 calls for the B5A 6148-CA (low mileage) or B4AZ 6148-A (Hi Lo) ring sets. Unfortunately, I can’t find pictures of the actual contents of these sets to see which one (or both) contain the springs.
I did notice one minor difference between the new middle rings and oil ring spacers and the originals - they are slightly wider. Would this be why inner springs didn’t come with the new set?
Different ring makers had their own makeup of rings, what would work better? if they fit your pistons, install them like their directions say, and go with it.
