VIN HELP

Hi there,
New to the forum. Just picked up a 1968 F500 dump truck and need some help making sure what I have. The title says ”F550 Super Duty” but the emblem on the hood says F500 and what I can make out from trying to do searches with the vin, I think it is a F500. I found your forum and was hoping you can help. The previous owner said it sat for 5 plus years when I got there to look at it. I hooked up the starter , threw a battery in it, filed the points and put some gas down the carb and she fired right up. I want to really go through this and get it on the road but I need to know what I’m working with. I plan on changing all fluids, plugs, etc and fixing the brakes. It has a in line 6 cylinder with a manual tranny. I plan on using this to haul wood for my outdoor furnace. Here’s the VIN:
1st line F50BCD50854
2nd line. 156 M F500 4381 A 42
3rd line. 15000 139 3600 46

Hi Jim,
Thanks for all the great info! That will give me a starting point for getting parts for a tuneup. I still have to go through the brakes and find what I might need for that as well. The title says F550 on it, should I have that changed to F500 when I get the title work done? Thanks agin, Brian

Okay, Was there a F550 model? I finally got all my parts together to do a tuneup tomorrow and after that I’ll dive into the brakes and see what I need there. I’d like to have this on the road before spring.

No f550 in '68. "Super Duty" in '68 meant an F800 and larger truck. Imo get the terms on the title corrected.

Thanks for the info. I think I’ll do that. Got to get it safe to be on the road first. Thanks again
