4" lift
Ahhhh, threads on lifts like when I first started coming here!
The way I look at it is maybe a product is all it is said to be (not mentioning any names here) but from what I get from most of the posts, half the truck here never even get off the pavement. Why spend $$$ for something that is designed for abuse when the most it will see is a pothole or occassional curb? I for one bang the crud out of a suspension during hunting season and I've never had a lift on any truck I've owned. The only thing I'm looking for is a leveling kit cause I think it just looks ugly with the nose pointing down and not because I compensating. Do lifts look cool? Of course they do but why blow a wad on something that will never live to see what it is truly designed for. If somebody feels they need to make up for some "shortcomings" then by all means spend a small fortune but for me I'd rather put the money away for my kids' college tuition. I gotta say though, I love these lift wars!!!

Actually you'll notice a real big difference in the ride quality of different lifts on the road for daily driving.......it's all about spring rate, spring design, and proper shock valving.
All the owners that allowed me to ride in their lifted SDs were always on the road......and they are not all the same......some not even close to others.
I lift because I like the looks, need bigger tires to go through the mud......and I find the need to drive up piles of soil, stone, and gravel behind our shop.
Just my $.02

I think I'm in a great situation to benefit from Donahoe Racing's experience. I didn't buy or use my truck to drive down downtown Main. All 2 miles of it! Only thing beyond my city limits are high plains/desert. Can't wait to hit some of those raods I see every time I've been coming and going out of town.
Plenty of BLM and National Forest roads right out of town.

ok.... i lied, one last post.
dc... you are 100% correct. i got baited and walked a path i didn't want to.... and, if i had said those things you claim i did, sorry for being an *** to you.... your opinion is as valuable as the next guys.
that being said..... i think i will back out of the suspension talk around here.... no need for my level headed and objective opinion on the subject as it will just turn into some kind of religious type of war. too many members have been 'sold' on one kit or another and feel they know best and will tell you.
i do find it rather interesting that some of you guys that stand up on a soapbox do not even own a lifted rig?
i currently run a fabtech/pa setup (i have run several other kits in the past on other rigs that i have owned).... if you are interested in my opinion and my 18+ years of 4wd and off road experience, i will be happy to help, just e-mail me and we can talk offline.

abendx,
Don't apologize.........I always enjoy a little bit of back and forth
.
You know what I find funny and interesting???...........a lot of the guys who say all lifts are the same and you won't notice the extra $$ of the Edge lifts unless you off road.........haven't ever ridden in one

Also it means pre-post april 99 with regards to suspension. The badging changed in March I think but my truck with the late badging has the early susp. (Mar 99)
Abendx and Overkill. Why don't you guys post something usefull or go into a chat room and jerk ^^^^^^or something. People come hear looking for advice. Leave it to them to sort out what they think is the best for each individual application.
I don't care whether it's a sales guy, manufacturer or Joe blow. I'll take it all with a grain of salt and sort my way through it. I figure I've got more off road experience than 99% of the users on this board. Real off road experience in Jeeps and Landcruisers.
Superduty's aren't worth anything for real 4-wheeling so why not just point everybody to a cosmetic lift solution that also improves ride and handling for asphalt and dirt roads.
You guys kill me. What are you - like 29 years old or something and laden with testosterone that could be used for much better applications. I know mine is. Blond, 34C, sexy and curvacious. Umm.

Abendx,
No need to apologize. We just consider the source. I have been in offroading for over 20 years now and really do appreciate the fact that Overkill and Donahoe share their knowledge with us. That is the main reason I even look at these forums. The only thing that you seem to know about and share with us is your dementia towards salesmen. I hate to tell you but everybody is a salesmen at some point in life
The other thing I can not understand is your thought that everything is created equal and the only difference is the profit margin that the manufacture makes. If this were true why are you driving a Super Duty?
Having made the awful mistake of not researching this forum and learning the truth about the Doanhoe Kit, I first purchased a Fabtech kit. After numerous conversatons with Kreg Donahoe I learned what the real differences are and have since changed. All I can say is "what a huge difference". It is really too bad that someone like you who constantly spouts off about off road knowledge is not willing to try other products and listen to people who actually know more.

NMSeahawk: Asumming you are a new user(not a regular with a new handle) "WE just consider the source"!! Who's WE? I enjoy abendx's post myself as do quite a few other members! As far as the rest of your post, IMO your way offbase on abendx's views! You would have to read many threads to get a idea of his or any of our views on a certain subject, not just "one"!
I personally think the last sentence in your post was totally uncalled for! (in fact, the whole post)
But with your 20 years offroading experience I'm sure you can share some imfo with us in the future to help us build better trucks and not make the same mistakes!
Thanks in advance,
Lenny

All you have to do is come down to my shop and go for a ride. I will equip a truck the same hight as yours and you can go for a ride and give your objective review on the board. If you think that the ride in an 8" EDGE system is not worth an extra 400.00 bones then I'm sure it would change alot of peoples minds. You seem to be very onesided that The Donahoe racing EDGE stuff is way too overpriced For what you get. the problem is you have no Idea what you get for the extra 400.00 bucks. The offer stands from a year ago to come down and check it out.
But untill you do go for a ride in a Donahoe racing system you are just complaining becuse you dont like hearing about it and thats not fair to anyone.
By the way SPAM is unwanted info..... Show me one example of Spam from Donahoe racing.
coyboyup: Cost is the big factor more on ride quality and longevity. The cheeper the system cost the less ride quality you can get out of it plus the less expensive spring system will sag out quicker. Suspension companies have alot of choices to get product from. (i.e. China,Mexico, canada.) Look for made in the USA... It makes a HUGE diffeance. BDS is made in the USA. So is our stuff. If you go with a cheeper spring try to save for good shocks like bilstiens. A good shock will help with spring life and you might get a few more miles out of the springs. Fabtech makes a good kit for the price. Alot of people are very happy with skyjacker as well. 4WPW has the cheepest price becuse they are usally the biggest *****s when it comes to suspension. They sling alot of lift kits. But I have hear lots of complaints about customer service from them. Check on-line store as well. And just reasearch your brains out. The worst thing is getting into a system you dont like. Go for rides in as meny systems you can. 35" tall tires will just clear on a 4" system. Depending on the system you get you might want to get a carrier bearing drop kit. The 2 peice driveshafts can cause a wicked vibration after the truck is lifted. Other then that you should be good.
Hope that helps. -->
