Hey everyone, Im new to the whole ford scene and so far, I like what im seeing, I just have a few questions. I have my 12" sub and 800W amp from my old car and I was wondering where I could place it in a 1987 Single Cab Ford Ranger? I dont think it can fit under the seat all that well, Or am I wrong? Thanks In Advance!
ive got about like, maybe 2 inches max from the back of the seat to the back of the cab.... what possibilities do I have. I was thinking replacing the seats with bucket seats and having the sub in the middle of the two?
most people slide the bench seats forward and fit a truck box, or stealth box behind the seat, you SHOULD have enough room, but maybe you're a big guy and need all the leg room you can get, if so, bucket seats may be the way to go for you, if you can afford it! theres no laws against how you should install a sub in your vehicle, only common sense. Best bet is behind the seat though, is it a split bench maybe?
id do it, but the steering column sticks out so far (im used to imports) that i need the seat as far back as it can go!! any other ideas? im only 6 feet tall and i need the leg room. HandofGod, could you possibly post some pictures of this 'truck' or 'stealth'
box?
you can always make a box for it like i plan on doing. Only i have buckets (and a folding middle seat) and i am making the boxes so that they face the opposing person (sub behind P-seat points upward and toward driver and vice versa for other box) and the boxes are going to be as large as can be, with a 6x9 box on the end closest to the door angled upward.
anyway i would go with the buckets and and sub in the middle. You can get a bigger box and you can see the sub poundin away.
yea, im leanin towards the bucket seats idea, now heres the real question.... since im tottally NEW to Fords, what vehicles would I find that have bucket seats that fit the rails in the seats already in the truck? (the seat is 2 units, one for the back and the one you sit on and it stretches from one end to the other)
here are examples of stealthboxes for the newer rangers and s-10s. If you aren't bad with wood craftsmanship, maybe you could build one, like these. remember, shape does not matter, as long as you have the volume
build or buy a box like that, and put something like a JL 8W7, I guarantee you'll be happy with it. I heard an 8W7 the other day and it blew me away, put out the same quality and volume as my 12!
ALSO.... 87 Ranger 2.9 5 speed huh? good truck, better be 4WD! (same thing i have)

you can have custom center consoles done that hold the subs and are not visible and look pretty good, but can be kinda pricey, you would need buckets though for sure
wow thanks for the pics and everything!I guess the next question is, will that stealth box fit in my 87? I am planning on something like that now that I know how its biult and I see that its gonna be pretty impressive, thanks for the links and no, its a rwd, so I guess ill need another car for the winter!
