As i have been driving my 7.3 since December 2001, my routine is to go a few minutes up the road to the 76 truck stop for fuel. Now that I added a 2019 to the mix, are any of you folks running this Propel Diesel HPR fuel that has a minimum Cetane rating of 65? I have a station about 10 miles from the house but never bothered with it on the 7.3 but it might make a difference on these later 6.7 engines. If you are using it, do you see less soot build up or extended regen cycles?
Interesting. Never heard of that cetane rating. I have seen the Propel stations, but I thought they were all cardlock which I don't have.
Can't help with your question obviously, but I believe CA already mandates a minimum cetane of 50, which is a lot better than some of the states. The reason being what you mentioned, lower soot emission.
Would I run that fuel? Would have to know the cost premium first, then test it only if reasonably priced. Also would want to know the level of Bio if any.
As my truck has just over 1,100 miles since I bought it a few months ago, I have only put fuel in it once and I still have 3/4 a tank so I may take it over at 1/2 tank and fill it up and see how it does.
I have never heard of that stuff before. How much difference in cost is there from regular diesel? I did a Google search for it though and I found this interesting.
"Propel Diesel HPR is not biodiesel, however, it is manufactured from similar renewable biomass sources including recycled fats and oils. Refined from renewable biomass through advanced hydrotreating technology, Propel Diesel HPR meets the toughest specifications required by automotive and engine manufacturers. This allows Diesel HPR to be used by any diesel vehicle"
That's competitive priced. I'm not seeing many bad reviews. Like anything, there will be some. Even *******s get bad reviews from some.
I'm interested in what your experience will be if you try it. But be sure to give the regular stuff a try too. I think I would track mileage (obviously), miles between regens (should be fewer if it burns as clean as they advertise). Especially both of those when towing. Increasing miles between regens would be a really big one I think. Fewer regens has to improve overall mileage, not to mention the inconvenience of that process.
The biomass diesel is subsidized just like E85. The fuel is well regarded and I have posted before on it. We consume 15k gallons weekly at work of it and never had any issues. Its always been the "driest" fuel we have ever gotten and fleet wide the water separators show it.
