Yeah it's true. I've got a NOS pair that I bought from the local Ford dealer back in the early 90's. They both have mid-eighties part numbers (begins with "E").
You can buy a repop of the floor but the shipping cost can be an issue. I'm w/i driving distance of NPD so would go for this floor currently on sale for $700.
Here's somethings to keep in mind. The OP stated that his/her truck is a 74 F250. If that truck is a 2wd then the bed floor is a direct bolt to frame replacement. If that truck is a 4x4 then the newer bed floors will need to be modified to bolt to the frame. It's not a big deal. Just something that needs to be mentioned.

The full floor pan is still available from Ford for both the short and long beds (96 F150).

The taillight “boxes” are different between the early & later beds as is the tailgate interface.
That was a separate part from either the inner or outer rear quarter panels. Ford called it "pillar assy., rear corner". It included the tailgate support and the inner structure reinforcement for the taillight.
