Just a general question. Why is it illegal for backup cams to display when you're not backing up? Your mirrors certainly work, and I would think that it would be easier to watch for tailgaters etc.
Generally with the huge uptick in screens for navigation, entertainment etc etc etc I think most jurisdictions have somewhat relaxed their once-strict bans on any screen being visible to the front seats. Probably the only time a LEO might pull you over for distracted driving if you're weaving like a drunk or going too slow. Big rig truckers have at least two screens they use--one for GPS and another for electronic logs & messaging from the home base.
I'm about to install two cameras and a monitor that'll basically replace or augment my outside mirrors. There doesn't seem to be any restrictions I'm aware that would limit my using those.
as said, it is considered distracted driving.
mainly because the average drivers these days can not walk and breath at the same time.
let alone drive forward and look at a camera showing behind them.
