I’m brand new to the site and forums. I wanted to say hello. I appreciate this site and it’s helped me out quite a bit so I decided to join.
I have two separate issues at the moment.
I have a 79 F-150 with a 351W. I’m getting a hesitation and almost loss of power when I release the gas and then accelerate again. I’m thinking it’s a carburetor issue but not sure.
Second is when I power down and remove key engine continues to run for 30 seconds or so and then rumbles HARD before shutting off. For this issue I’m lost. Maybe ignition but that doesn’t explain the hard rumble while powering down.
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome, I also have a 1979 F-150 but mine has the 302, I had to rebuild the carb in mine and that help the power loss when I was hitting the gas, its still not a lot but better than before. I am sure the 351 had much better pickup power than the 302.

it does I adjusted the idle speed on my carburetor and that helped a little but I still get a hesitation. The Holley Carburetor on my is only a year old and I don’t suspect that Is directly the problem however some sort of adjustment needs to be made and I’m just unsure of where. Thanks for the response though and would love to see your truck.
You need an accelerator pump diaphragm. If you dont have a pump shot of fuel your just leaning it out when your giving it pedal and a bunch of air with no gas.
Also the "run-on" or dieseling" when you turn your key off can be a few different things but more then likely your truck should have a solenoid that butts up to the carb linkage to keep in slightly open when the ignition is on and running so it will idle and when the key is turned off it is supposed to let the throttle blades close all the way to keep it from doing what your describing. Do some research and see if theres a throttle solenoid thats either been removed or not working.
