Looking for heating ideas for sleeping inside an SUV and came across an old thread that suggested using candles. While there are some that say they work great, there are also others that are against it due to monoxide that it emits. What is the verdict on this? And ive also read some specifying Tea candles... Are Tea candles safer for this purpose?
Ventilation is important regardless, otherwise the car or truck is going to end up like a sauna and fog up or ice up. The human body (skin) will give off about a pint of water per day, without sweating or anything like that. Best to set up some kind of cross ventilation if possible. Just a little bit. Then you can burn a candle (in a lantern) no problem, for light more than anything. UCO makes a nice little collapsible job with 9 hour candles.
The trick is to have good sleeping gear so heat isn't necessary. Maybe just when waking up. Air everything out daily, in the sunshine if possible. Shake it out, turn it inside out, etc. Stuff will dry (though slowly) if exposed to direct sunlight even in freezing temperatures and wind. But over several days if not aired out every day blankets and sleeping bags will start to take on lots of moisture. Synthetics are best for avoiding this. Goose down is good stuff, but if it gets wet you're $@cked for a long time.
