Speedometer is way off after dash work
1977 f250 400 auto 2wd. I had a/c put in my truck and the dash was pulled. Now the speedo starts at 85mph and sweeps to the left upwards clockwise as I drive. How can I fix this back to zero and be accurate? I have searched the forums and have not found anything like this that does not involve tire sizes and changes. Thanks Jack

CAREFULLY pull the needle off the front of the gauge and see if it can be re-positioned. I recall that able to remove it pretty easily when I was painting my gauge needles, but I don't recall for sure if there is any kind of indexing slot or something that would prevent your from just turning it to point back at zero. I don't think so, but I'm not totally sure either.

Before you do that, simply disconnect the speedo cable from the back of the gauges and reconnect. My speedo was doing weird things after I pulled the gauges out and reinstalled. I disconnected the speedo cable and noticed it wasn't seated in the gauge correctly. After I reinstalled it everything worked as it should.
