Wiring Help

I've searched and can't seem to come up with anything that's totally clear!

Background: 1970 F100, 390
Upgrade: CVF Racing 8 rib Wraptor serpentine kit
Problem: No electrical power going inside the truck

I installed the kit, it comes with a GM one wire alternator. I've unplugged and removed the factory alternator harness and external voltage regulator. I've studied the wiring diagram for the truck and have concluded that there's one wire that feeds 12v to the fuse box/headlight switch and ignition switch. I've connected that wire to the hot side of the solenoid. For some reason everything worker prior to installing the kit and removing the factory alternator harness, now I have no power getting inside the truck. Is there another wire, or a ground that I may have overlooked?

Appreciate any help!

Thanks, Troy

When you install a 1-wire alternator, you removed the Regulator. The harness has 3 wires that feed the internal wiring. If you follow the plug up toward the starter solenoid, you should find the plug that needs to be connected back to the battery. With that said, I will just say the obvious, you should test each lead before attempting to reconnect them. Easy method would be to use a continuity/ohm meter setting to tone out the leads to the main dash harness.

Thanks for the response. Yes, there's a three wire connector that has the large black/w yellow stripe wire that feeds the fuse box. There are two other small wires on that same plug. One is red, the other is yellow. I can't find those wires, or the three wire connector shown on the wiring diagram. I suspect that I'm getting close! Just need to keep at it.

If you trace the 3 wire connector to the regulator/alternator side of the harness, I believe that all 3 end up connected together. You can just grab the old wires and check for continuity between all 3 plugs on the side you removed. Also, I would fuse/circuit break these at the battery even though the factory didn't. The wires get old and its better safe than fried.

Thanks for the link.

I believe I have it worked out. The original alternator harness has a connector that has three wires, heavy black w\yellow stripe, red, and yellow (all three wires go into a harness that leads back inside the truck). I have yet to find a wiring diagram that shows the red or yellow wire. As Pcmdub stated, I studied the original harness, checked continuity on the red and yellow wires in that harness (I already knew that the black/yellow wire feeds power to the fuse box, headlight switch and ignition switch). Sure enough, they're all connected. I've tied the red and the yellow together, gave them 12v from the battery and now the engine turns over with the key. I've got 12v at the coil and on the red w/blue stripe wire going to the solenoid. Ran out of time last night, so I'll go at it again this evening. So far, it seems to be correct. I'll also be adding fuses on all three wires for safety.
