I have a 1991 motorhome with a 460. Apparently the previous owner was messing with the alternator and broke the tab off the alt mount bracket. It's the tab that holds the swivel side of the alt.
When I removed the old alt, the swivel bolt was loose and had this shim/bushing thingie between the broken mount and the alt. It looks like the thing I've seen in all alternators that make it tight/aligned on the swivel side mount, but it wasn't in, nor would it fit in the alt. I think the other fella had this problem.. Explained next.
The new (and old) alt would need 4 -3/8 washers to align the alt properly. I find it odd that the alt wouldn't have that bushing/shim on either alt.
So to ask,
1) can this part be welded?
2) anyone have this part for sale?
3) does all that alt bushing/shim stuff seem normal? I find it hard to believe that the adjustment hole is the only hole holding the alignment. The swivel side would "float" so to speak.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
