Hey all so I had a couple of error codes come up and was told I most likely have a vacuum leak, I looked around and found this hose leaking and broken, I am not sure what it is called to get a replacement and ideas???? I am attaching the pic it's the hose with the painter's tape on it. it had a heat shield on it, I believe it has something do with fuel vapor
Looks like a vapor recovery line. While you are searching you can wrap it in electrical tape. This would be around in a spiral, not length wise like the painter's tape. Wrap it in electrical tape. I wouldn't be surprised if this part is no longer available as a pre-formed line. If that is the case, you can get some bulk fuel line that is the right diameter and splice it in as needed.
Yep - the EVAP purge valve is on the other end. It’s a very common issue with these engines.
I wouldn’t bother trying to get a replacement line from Ford. I don’t know about availability but as CathedralCub said - bulk fuel line will work so long as it’s rated for fuel and emissions use.
I think 10 mm is the original I.D. of the factory hose, but 3/8” will work with a little dielectric grease on the fitting for the purge valve. The fitting is barbed so save yourself the trouble of fighting the old line and just cut it lengthwise along the fitting to remove it. While you’re at it, get some 1/2” line for the other side of the valve - there’s a length that connects to a metal tube on the firewall, and the other end of that tube has about a 2” piece on the frame by the driver side tire where it connects to the tube that runs back to the tank.
I’d also suggest wearing gloves - those hoses break down like charcoal when you handle them - my hands have been stained for a day or two because of it.
If your codes were P0171/P0172 then I’d suggest getting the intake smoke checked at a shop - the manifolds and gaskets are known for leaks (in addition to the hoses breaking down).
