These lights are junk installed them and one blew out and all of them full of moisture. At this point there’s nothing I can do as I drilled my roof . I also put silicone under the light
Uh oh... How long have you had them on?
I do drive through car washes about once a week... will report back if issues arise. I also siliconed the tops of the mounting screws but not sure if that would address the issue that you mentioned. Replacing them would be easy now that they are there. I would rather have them than not.
I had them on for 3 weeks before the one burned out and I noticed the moisture, they are easy to swap out , recon did send me a new set but I’ll see how long these last

Thanks for the info. Hopefully it's not a common thing. I will definitely report back here if I have issues with these lights.
Great write up!! I have very similar truck and have purchased the Recon cab lights in smoke. I have already attached the Recon wiring harness to the passenger side pillar and tucked the wiring harness into the headliner space. Before I did this I tested the wiring harness and lights when they were connected to the passenger side pillar factory plug (removed now). Anyways, my question is concerning the headliner I am not able to drop my headliner down very far at all maybe like 4"-5" max without creasing it. I have some questions if you don't mind:
1.) can this install be done with just dropping the headliner using the removal of visors, front pillar plastic, and pulling down the rubber around the doors? Or should the side pillars be removed as well?
2.) I noticed you marked yours off using painters tape, my question is how did you know the lines were straight? It would drive me crazy if I didn't get it pretty close to perfect. I noticed you had perpendicular lines marked on the blue tape and I wonder if you might be able to explain this to me so I can repeat the same process? Cell phone 214-717-7736.
3.) Did you do this install by yourself, or did you have an extra set of hands to fish each wire to the harness and make the connection? Or did you push the wiring harness connector through the drilled hole and connect outside on the roof of truck?
4.) Also, I called Recon and requested a template and they refused to send me anything. Could you forward me this template you have?
I am planning on doing this install sometime this weekday if it will ever stop raining here in Waco.
Thanks,
Mark

1) The sunvisors, A pillar covers and door seals need to be out of the way. I never messed with B pillars at rear of seats.
2) I marked those lines when I measured from the windshield to the front of the light fixture. I guess I really don't know if the lines are truly straight. I drilled the big hole for the wiring connector to pass through and then ran the wire down so the light could sit flush. I then "fine tuned" the light placement before marking the 2 mounting screw holes.
As I said before... It's important that the center light is placed perfectly centered. Once you have the center light installed, it's just a matter of measuring back from the windshield channel and over from the center light to the next light location. The 2 outside lights were even easier to place. There is no exact measurement. Just make sure that everything is an exact mirror image from left to right.
3) I did this with no help. I fished the harness up through the holes, made the connections and fed everything back down.
4) The template is the 2nd pic in post 1 of this thread. In my opinion, it's just a suggestion of measurements for placing the lights. I varied the locations of my lights a bit for my own taste.
I’m not too happy with my Recon clear with orange LED lights that I had professionally installed. 1 of the 5 did not work and Recon provided 2 replacements. While they look great, 3 of the 5 have moisture inside the light housing. I’m going to have to take it back and have it looked at. Unless it is common for moisture to condensate inside the lights? No evidence on water intrusion inside the cab. It looks like a seal issue between the plastic lens cover and the base.
I ordered a Recon cab light kit for my 2019 Superduty. The kit comes with lights and wire harness to tie into the trucks harness but no instructions. Recon emailed me a roof template once I called and confirmed my order had arrived.
I made an individual light template out of a piece of cardboard.
Removing the sun visors and A pillar covers is pretty straight forward. The headliner will come down far enough to see up in there. If you have a glass roof I understand that it’s not really any harder to access.

Great write up!! I too did this on a new Ram a few years back. Measured 50+ times before I drilled. I figured I'd be more careful on my own truck than some dude at the dealership.
On another noted, I will say I like the look of the RAM roof lights than the Ford ones. I think the Ford lights are too small and pointy...if that makes sense. I'm wondering about installing the RAM OEM lights using a Ford template. Thoughts on this??

Yea, I really didn't trust anyone else to di the install as I knew I would take my time and go slow.
I suppose any light can be installed on any cab roof. As long as you get the lights all placed so that they are on a flat surface in order to make a good seal.
