1994 E150 dome light problem

I have a 1994 E150 I purchased not too long ago. The front dome light had been out, and I just got around to pulling the lense off and putting a new bulb in it. Now I have a little bit of a problem. The light comes on when the door opens or when activated with the switch. I opened and closed the driver door several times, most of the time the dome light triggered on and off like it should. A few times when the door would shut the light would remain on. Also, if you close the door and pull on it (like when I lock my door, I always pull the handle to make sure it is closed and locked) the light seems to come back on.

Where should I start looking? Door switches? Headlamp/dome switch? Something else?
How do I test them?
Is it just the front two doors that trigger the front dome light or do the rear two doors trigger it as well?

All doors trigger it. Pulling on the door and activating it probably us pointing to your problem. Do the same with the other doors and see what happens. Also look at the switch. Some have plastic that goes bad so the button doesn't push in far enough or 'just' enough to turn it off but any body flex or door not shutting all the way may leave the light on. They are pretty cheap on RA.

I went back out and looked at it again. I tried all of the doors as recommended. Pulling on both the driver and passenger doors seem to turn the light on. On a side note, once the light comes on, it doesn't go back out when the door is released. I'm not sure if that means anything for diagnosing the problem. Also, if the light stays on when the door is closed, if I reopen it and manually press the door switch sometimes the light goes out but sometimes it doesn't.

Both of the rear doors don't seem to affect the light when they're pulled on.

If the lights coming on when the handle is lifted is a factory thing, is there a way to disable it while still having the light come on when the doors are opened? That just seems like it could be a privacy concern to me.

My econoline has aftermarket lights with a on or off switch. But yours could have factory and may have a 3 way switch like most cars do.
