Mine did exactly that just before a trip to Florida from Quebec. I called the dealer and I told them that I think my nox sensor went out. They took it in the next day and it was in fact the nox sensor.
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but want to get some input. I bought a 2017 F250 6.7L, Lariat, Crew, 4x4, with the 6.75 bed back in August. Friend of mine topped off the def tank so I'm sitting at 100% on the fluid. About two weeks in I found a note written on the original sticker that says "New Owner, the emissions on this truck is turned off. It will not use any Def fluid. It will also pass any visual inspection with no problem. It has the factory exhaust system install. I have the programer for it if you're willing to purchase it. I have run it this was since 65,000 miles."
I went back to the dealer and had them check it out, thinking that the software had been deleted. They said it has not and everything looks normal. Screen shots attached of what the dealer showed me. Doing more research I found that the Def Particulate filter gauge wasn't turned on, so I got the tool and Forscan and added (two days ago). As of yesterday I've run the truck for just over 1000 miles since purchase and filled up on diesel 3 times. My Def fluid gauge sits at 100% full and the Def Particulate filter reads 0% Full. I have not seen a regen. I'm about to go on trip that will be about 1100 miles roundtrip. I hoping to see a regen happen during that trip, but I suspect I won't.
What do you think? Part of me thinks the original owner was trying to scam someone into buying software. The dealer says it's okay, I have no soot showing on the tailpipe, and don't blow black smoke when I gun the engine, so part of me thinks maybe it's okay. However, the def fluid isn't being used (bad senor?), and the filter isn't climbing up, yet. The end product maybe I just have to live with it as deleted, if it truly is. I'd rather run it with the factory specs, but what can I do without paying an arm and a leg. Is there anything else I can check? Dealer laptop 1 Dealer laptop 2 Dealer confirmation
No Worries! Actually i remember this post. It took a REALLY long time for the gauge to move off 0%.. i wanna say 1500 km or so.. might have been more like 2000km. Anyhow, i ran into the same problem when last winter (2020), i had to get one of the dpf sensors replaced. When ford replaced it, it took about the same mileage DPF % to start moving again. I think when work is done to the system, they do a calibration value reset and it takes a while for it to re-learn these values it uses to put up a % value. (read that somewhere....) I'd give it a bit longer if i were you. It also takes quite a while for the DEF tank gauge to move, so its hard to use that as a reference point as well. I'd give it another 5 or 600 miles before worring about it.
That note is odd and i can understand your concern. When these guys bypass the emissions, they usually leave themselves an avenue to quickly go back to stock for re-sale or inspection reasons. The previous owner or dealer probably already reset it back to stock. It really is a 10 sec process.
If you want to see if it is till able to do regen, perform a static regen using the Forscan phone app or via laptop. You can also use Forscan to monitor the dpf pressure delta through the DPF to make sure one exists. I think forscan will give you this info as regen is happening... but then again its been a while since i've done it...
My 2019 is still stock @ 58000km and that DPF sensor was the only prob so far...
Not sure if this helped, but good luck! Cheers!

Thanks for the reply Frasier_Addison. That is encouraging. I'll wait till after my 1100 mile trip the first week of Nov. Fingers crossed that that will do something...at that point I'll have over 2000 miles on it since i got it.
Just a quick update: We did the trip and never once did a regen. Took the truck back to the dealer we bought it from and they determined that the particulate filter was clogged. They are replacing it and footing $4000 of the $5000 bill.

if you found a note, did you confirm that the emissions has been turned off? If so I’m not sure how the dealer could legally sell you a truck like that.
let alone charge you $1000 for a DPF..

I would expect an intact emissions system to alert you to the DPF being clogged, on top of a drivabilty issue or even going into limp mode. Curious how the previous owner could bypass(turn off) the emissions system, and I assume the dealer has the know how to get it all functioning again.

correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe I saw on one of these pages where the ESP does not cover the emission equipment?
I'm not 100% clear on that, but I remember reading something like that as well. It does list some emissions related components, DPF doesn't appear to be one of them.
I agree with you to an extent that Ford should have taken care of it. I argued that they sold me a defective truck, that I wouldn't have purchased if I'd known I needed to sink another $5K into. However, it is a used vehicle, the previous owner deactivated the DEF system (probably incorrectly), they said it checked out okay, and it was sold "as is," which is their catch all. Additionally, after replacing the filter they had to replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Throttle Actuator. The PCM they called warranty and they ate the cost of the Throttle Actuator. All said and done the bill was $5391 with another $1800 for the rental car...they had the truck for 46 days! They said they had issues getting the parts. My cost was $1095. So I think I did okay, considering legal action could have cost me more.
As of today, my particulate filter shows 15% full and I'm heading towards my first regen! Yay!
