DPF Filter % screen... probs

Hey all,

So i have had my 2019 F350 XLT 6.7 for a whopping 3 weeks now and i decide to add the DPF % screen to see when the system decides to do a regen. I used forscan and added the screen to the information center. However, after a day of driving, the % on the screen still sits at 0%?? I find this a bit weird! Is there another thing i'm supposed to modify to get this screen to work properly?

Thanks in advance!

Fraser

No. It should move without any other activation. Give it a few more miles

I added the dpf % as well. Avg, you can go about 400 miles before a regen.
so theoretically for every 10% full you should have driven 40 miles+/- then numbers are NOT set in stone. But like he said above, give it a little more time.

BTW, how far did you travel in one day?

Hmmm I did about 55 miles after i added the screen. The truck only has about 700 miles on it so far...... I know it did a regen just before i added the status screen...I'll give it another day and see what happens. Thanks for the input as i'm still kinda new at the whole forscan thing.

When I added mine it was at 60%. Then it regened and I have not seen it leave 0%. This is over the last month or so. Not sure why. I figured maybe with the sub zero temps and highway driving it was staying clean.......Don't know.

That's really strange, I would expect something more than 0 in that amount of time.

How cold is it where you live Fraser? Screen will always say zero if you are in about -10ish Celsius.

Yup!
Ottawa, Ontario here. The temperature has been hovering around -10C to -22 for the past few days, but is supposed to warm up to 0ish by Thursday. Most of my driving is highway or rural roads, so there isn't likely a lot of buildup in the DPF yet... But i do about 90km a day on average...

Im from Saskatchewan and work in northern Alberta. I haven’t seen anything register on my DPF screen since November lol. I’ve tried to research why but can’t find a single answer. I had the dealer add the screen and activate operator commanded regen which is useless if the screen won’t read. Only prompts you to do an ocr if your screen reaches 100%.

Edit. The percentage screen does not only account for how full the filter is. It takes mileage into account as well. The truck will reach 100% full at max 800km intervals no matter how actually full the filter is. Also, complete blockage on the filter is 300%. You’d be in limp mode long before that.

What year? 2019 as well? I can't see it going that long without a regen even with all your prairie driving! I'm wondering if its a firmware bug? i'll fire up the torque app on my phone tomorrow and see what it reads for the dpf filter soot level. i'll let u know!

I have a 2018. When I hooked up to forscan to check the percentage, it read 85% but the screen on the dash was at 0%. Just because the screen reads 0% doesn’t mean it won’t regen. The regen process remains in normal operation at a max 800k interval. Less if you are under load, idling or city driving.

hmmm thanks for the info. I'll keep you posted if anything changes on mine as the week progresses. In reality, it would be nice just to have an indicator on display showing when the truck is in regen.... but this is the next best thing if it works!

I have had the DPF % Filter screen on my 2017 for 61,000 km, in Northern BC. Just today, drove 240 Km. 99% when I left the house, started a regen just out of town, down to 0% in the first 50 Km. Stayed at 0% for about first 50 Km after regen. When I stopped at 120 km, was showing 5%, drove home late in the day, am at 20% rolling into town. Temps were 6 C to -2 C. I have never seen my truck not show % DPF up from 0% to 5% in the first 50-60 km. That’s Been at temps from +40 C to -40 C. I’m in my 3rd winter. We just had a 10 day cold snap, -20 to -44C. The DPF % goes up, cold or hot, almost exactly 5% per 50km when running unloaded, empty. I would imagine the colder it is, the faster it will go up, unless loaded and generating more heat

Keep an eye on it, seems like your programming is different than mine in a newer truck. Just watch and see what it does, what is normal. If it starts throwing codes, get the dealer to look at it.

I'm going to throw this out here. I have no experience with the in dash DPF% screen, however I do have a Edge CTS, and monitor the PID DPF% I do not know if the above about the, on the in dash screen taking into account mileage is true or not. What I do know is there are three events that will trigger a normal regen: DPF% reached 100%, grams/Liter Soot reached 8.38, or distance from last regen reaches 500 miles. When any one of these conditions are meet, the truck will begin a regen as soon as the engine is at operating temperature (about 160F for oil and coolant).

As has been noted, in colder temps, the DPF% is VERY slow to build. From what has been discussed in other threads, the in dash display only displays in 5% increments, so it was at 0, but in 55 miles of driving it would have to reach 5 for the display to change. The Edge unit reads at 1% intervals, and with it I have noticed that at highway speeds the % will build but is very slow, however on moderate speeds (45-55 MPH) with the engine at 150-180, it will actually passively regen at about 1% per mile. So for those in Northern climates, depending on your driving habits, you could see the DPF% state very low for the entire 500 miles.

You will also see people here "I've got 8000 miles on my truck and it has not done a regen yet", well even ion the best of cases the passive regen may keep the DPF% from reaching 100, but the grams/Liter and the mileage counter are still running, and will trigger a regen. Ford does not make it easy to see when the regen occurs, and most people just flat out don't catch it. The only screen from the factory that tells you is the instantaneous mileage.
