Snow Plow Prep Package?

Hello,

I have a 2018 F250 Platinum, which i bought back in September used with 43k miles, got a really good deal. So far from everything I've seen is its completely stock. Now from what i noticed, what all comes with the snow plow package? Is it just different springs with different weight rating? I seem to have leveling pucks between the top spring perch and the spring, I'm going to assume that isn't the plow package right? My truck does sit pretty much level. If i do indeed have leveling pucks, is there anything i should be worried about?

Snow plow prep package is heavier front springs. I have heard it is also about a half inch to an inch taller than one without the prep. Not sure how to tell by looking at it.

Some people with the prep complain of resale problems. Might be something to consider.

If its a 6.7 diesel it should be about 1 inch taller in the front via stiffer snow plow springs. Your white door sticker will tell you your front gawr: 5200 stock, 5600 Heavy service, and 5990 or 6000 will be snowplow.

I believe you can go up one inch on the stock shocks from the 5200 springs, as them and snowplow springs use the same shocks.

Anything over 5200 stock springs may need caster adjustment in the alignment. Does it bumpsteer bad and wonder on the road? Even with the prep package and springs the engineers expect you to weigh the front end back down so everything lines back up, hope that makes sense.

Once you are around 2 inches you probably need a trackbar drop bracket.

Figure out what you have. Pics etc help. If it drives fine you probably have nothing to worry about.

YMMV

Page 32 describes it. Looks like upgraded springs and extra heavy duty alternator.

Use the VIN number lookup to see other options it may have.

I think the lack of it in certain parts of the country and Canada can decrease the buyer base for a used HD truck.

It degrades the ride somewhat so its a gamble either way. I would rather just get the rapid heat that comes with the heavy duty alternator and consider swapping springs as thats pretty cheap to do later.

my 2020 has a 5600 FGAWR and has plow prep.
plow prep also limits you to certain things, I believe you can only get 18” wheels with it.

Thanks for the responses. My truck does in fact have the plow prep package, as per my window sticker. My main question, does the plow package just have different springs? Or is it different springs with a spacer? I definitely have a spacer between the top of the front coil springs and the perches. I’m assuming from the factory there is no spacer with the plow package, and that the previous owner added small leveling spacers. Truck drives fine, I don’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

The 2018 ordering guide says nothing about having a spacer...so I assume that is something the previous owner added. Most likely it’s part of a leveling kit.

Mine has factory snow plow prep. And it does have a rubber spacer on top of springs.

Are you sure that's not just the coil spring isolator?

You can get Timbrens for the front end and that will take care of that period. If you have the 6.7 you will have the HD alternator which will keep the lights bright when lifting the plow etc.

If you like the truck and it's a deal buy it. Christ you can slap on a snowplow on any superduty and go to it. There are lighter plows out there as well. But Timbrens will tame the front end fast easy and cheap.

Post a pic.

You can remove it if you dont like it. I personally dont understand the tall leveling kits as these are meant to haul weight in the back.

F-350 with snow plow package.
20” wheels 397 alternator.
Roughly 1”+ lift from the stock SP 5990# springs over standard, no difference in ride with a diesel due to its heavy weight to begin with. 5600 vs. 5990 is more about lifting nose height and not dipping low when picking up a 1,200 lb plow.

If ride deteriorates, your shocks are getting weak.
If a truck doesn’t have a SP package in my area, it will negativity affect resale. Our dealer won’t order a truck without it.
This truck will never plow, or even see winter, but plow prep will be one of the first questions asked when selling it.

This is what I have on top of my springs. By the looks of it, a 2” leveling spacer?
