Stuck in Drive

Tried to put my truck in Park, and it wouldn't move. Stayed in Drive. Turned it off, and I couldn't start because it wouldn't go into neutral. While off, I strong armed the wheel and the shifter into neutral. Started it, and drove it into the garage, shut it off, and chocked it.

Can't get it out of Drive. No neutral, no park, no reverse.

Any ideas?

We did have a deep, wet snow this morning. I backed into my son's driveway, and it was fine. Drove it about five miles on the wet, snow covered roads, and tried to park at the carryout.

If the garage is nice and warm your problem may fix itself overnight as things thaw out and melt. Nice wish, anyway.

So, is it the shifter that won't move out of "D" or is it you can move the shifter through the range but the transmission stays in Drive? The transmission is electrically controlled. I'm not familiar with the engineering of the trans but the only mechanical connection may be the parking pawl. When you move the shifter, you are just activating solenoids in the transmission. If the wires going to the transmission become disconnected, the transmission won't shift. Although it has been my experience that when this happens, the trans goes into neutral. If it's the shifter itself that won't move, then you have a problem with the lever or, if it has a mechanical pawl, the shift arm from the column to the trans.

There is a.cable that liks the shifter to the selector rod that goes into the trans case. Check the connections on the cable ends. Once the.rod goes into the.case i have no idea as i have not had a 10 speed pan off yet.cj

Yes, the shifter doesn't want to move. So, maybe it is in the column?

I did try tilting the wheel, but it had no effect.

I was able to get it to the dealer. I'll post what they come up with.

It's good to have an idea of what may be the issue before going to the dealer. Apparently this isn't a common issue. Hopefully something simple due to the weather.

Were you able to fix the problem? It just happened to me as well..

Drove for about 20 miles yesterday, and when i tried to put it in park, the shifter was hard and stuck, it would only go down to 3,2,1.. but it wouldnt go up to N,R or P.. after an hour of shutting it off, i went back to the truck and i was able to bring the shifter up with no problems. But i did notice that it still tries to do it after i drive for a while. The shifter will get hard when i try to put it in park. Any ideas?

i have the same year, 2017 6.7, but i have activated cop mode with forscan, what that dose is locks the transition when theres no key even if its running! theres been a few times that i hoped in to fast for it to read it and tried to shift and it wouldn't shift unless i stop and give it a second to realize the key is there! i know its not the same as you dont have cop mode on but it could be something along the same lines!
