Anyone using any aftermarket seats or from another year model vehicle? How do they fit? My 79 Bronco's bench seat is shot. Debating about upgrading to bucket seats.
Hey Manfred. I have a 1979 F250 4x4. I had a seat from a late 80’s Ford pickup in it for a while. All you need to do is use the mounting brackets from your bronco.
I put 96 explorer seats on tracks from a 78 bronco with buckets in my sc, the only thing I don't like is the explorer seats are high back and don't go as far forward as low back when you tip the passenger seat up.
I went with a set of OBS (97 F350) seats for my 79 F350. Had to fab up a seat pan to bolt to the floor board (didn't want to drill new holes), then drilled and bolted my old track (with seats mounted to old track) to the fabbed pan, which was very easy then bolted down to the factory location holes. Check out the link below (post# 145).
Same concept for the bronco's. Just depends on what seats you like! If you prefer a center console (not a jump seat) you have options!! Get a console from any bronco. If you have a salvage close by, look at the 92-96 F150's, some of those came with bucket seats and console. But you get the idea!!
Hey Scott,
Got any more picture of the way you mounted the seat to your new home made plate with original tracks? A picture of the plate would be nice also if you have it.
Sorry I don't! Was in a hurry to get them in the truck so I could drive it to a local truck show!
It was very simple. I had a local fabrication shop cut me a 18"x 54" HD grade aluminum 1/4" plate. Then I took a 18" x 54" piece of cardboard (matched to the aluminum plate) to create a template. Then sat the seats (OBS seats) on the cardboard (gently) until I could square up the seats to the cardboard (very important to get them square and make sure the bolts match evenly on the cardboard). Then after getting the seats square, I pushed down firmly on the seats so the bolts threads (on the bottom of seats) would puncture thru the cardboard. This created my template to drill the holes in the plate for the seats to be mounted to. I unbolted my factory bench from the track. Took the template and laid on top of of my factory track, then used a sharpie to mark the holes onto the template. Then double checked that the marks were square and straight to the plate...then drilled out all your hole mark locations. I mounted the seats to the plate first since there were more bolts to secure. Then I mounted the original tracks to the plate. Then put them in the truck for a test fit (ensuring the right height for me and to make sure the side-to-side was correct)! If everything is good, then just bolt down the track to the original factory hole locations!! Boom!!
