I have a 2000 f350 kicking my butt. The gauges only work when you push the unlock button. I have a few parts trucks I've used parts from to test different items. So far I've replaced the GEM/fuse panel, headlight switch, relays, cluster and radio from other trucks with nothing fixing the problem. I've checked and cleaned the grounds under the dash. I've also run wire from the battery ground to the body and frame. I'm not having any luck finding a wiring diagram for my year truck. The one in the tech folder is for a 2002 and the other link connecting to BBB doesn't work. I'd like to ground the cluster, but I don't know which wire is the ground
One thing you could check is the wiring bundle going into the drivers door from the cab. I had some very strange issues going on and that bundle had bare wires on them creating the problems. Re-wrapped the wires and used new wire loom and all the problems went away.
The pink with orange ground wire isn't connected. I bypassed it and the gauges started working. I need to trace trace where it's not connected or permanently bypass it. Thanks for the help guys
@itsnotanova Here is the diagram for the 2000 model year. It appears to be identical to the one @Hootr posted.
What did you do when you say you bypassed the PK/OG wire? Leaving a factory ground wire disconnected is usually not the best thing to do. Your original issue with gauges working only when the unlock button is pressed may be back-driving the gauge cluster, indicative of a short, or possibly something worse.
I ran a grounded wire to the back of the cluster where the PK/OG wire gores into and the cluster started to work. I need to trace that PK/OG wire and see why it's not grounding
I ran across another thread where a guy was having the same exact problems I was having. His ended up being a bad body ground. I checked all of those grounds and even added more grounds just to eliminate the body or frame grounds as the cause.
