My dad purchased '97 F-150 about two months ago from a reputable (if there is such a thing) Ford dealership. Yesturday the gauges, ie. temp, oil press., alt., fuel, all quit working while his girlfriend was running around in it. The odometer/speedometer work ok, so does the "idoit's" lights< except the brake warning light, now it also does not work when the "E"-brake is engaged. I've narrowed the problem to no voltage to the Black/LtGreen wire @ the printed circuitboard. There is 12+ volts @ the ign. switch end of this wire when the key is on, & the red/yellow wire @ the PRCB is OK with bat. voltage. The problem is that there is no owners manual for me to see if a relay &/or controling voltage/ground problem for the relays.(Relay location is what I'm looking for) But....if ne1 has had a similar problem (with fix) or knlowledge of this gremlin p-lease respond!
Rude1(jap tech)...sorry!
If it wasnt so early in the morning I'd hassle you about being a Toy tech but I cant think of anything witty to say
The manual doesnt show a Bk/LG wire to the cluster as far as I can see. That wire at the ignition switch is just for accessory.
It shows 2 R/Y wires that are hot in run and start. R/W should be hot at all times.
The illumination lights and some of the warning lights use G200 ground which is behind the right kick panel. Everything else uses G201 which is behind the left kick panel.
There arent any relays for the instrument cluster.
Yeah, after all these years (20+), I'm kinda use to getting a rash-o-*&#* from"American" techs.
4 "Racerguy"..."Props-2-U!!!!" THANKS!!! Problem fixed with your info!
Found broken splice joint (S225) behind #1 Junction Block (Drivers side fuse/relay panel) Required removal of panel, cutting open main loom, & re-soilder connector.
@ "PRCB" the red/yellow wires for connecctors C238(pin# 12) & connector C239(pin# 11) did not have 12V in start/run position. Besides the gauges not working, no "Check Engine" light, no "Brake Warning" light, no "Low Fuel" warning light & no "start/run voltage @ radio/audio connector. All fuses OK & all relays working OK. The common point with all these components was "splice" joint #S225 which actually comes "from" not "to" #1 Junction Block. Gee....does the "factory" ever makes mistakes in thier EWD's??? We all should be used to that by now!!!
NE way, much thanks 2 "Ford Truck Enthusiasts"!! Get site! & of course 2 "Racerguy" ......"First On Race Day!"....just ask "Rousch Racing"!!!

You're welcome and thanks for letting us know what fixed it
That was a behind the firewall repair..... we'll give you .3 for fixing it
And are you going to try to tell me that there could possibly be a mistake in a wiring diagram??? How could that be?????
lol
Surely the people that write the books and the people that engineer the vehicles and the people that actually build them must talk amongst themselves so there are no mistakes right?
