All you guys that haul your trucks around on trailers... what kind of brake controllers are you using... for the long hauls I'll use my 18' dove tail hauler with 4 wheel brakes behind a 2008 suburban. Lots of choices and lots of prices $ to $$$$$. give me some learning
I had a Tekonsha P3 controller on my Tundra, but the Tundra was nothing more than a car with a pickup bed and really struggled even with the dump trailer empty so it went away and I bought the F-350 dually with the factory installed controller, which I believe is also made by Tekonsha, and it's great. I haul a 14,000 lb. 24' 20+4 tilt flatbed trailer with a small dozer or mini-excavator on it, and a tandem dump trailer with no problems.
Next question..... I haven't had a chance to get the truck weighed yet..... what is ya'lls estimate on weight for a 53 with a dressed out 460...??? 4k ?? 4500 ?? trying to figure out total trailering weight
Trailer is 2300 according to mfg. stock weight on a 53 is about 3200 ?? a flat head weights 400-500 ??? so I figure another 500 for the engine difference...making truck in the 3500-4000 range ??? so trailer and truck I'm around 6k... well under my towing weight on the Suburban
anybody got a 53 with a 460 that knows the scale weight
j
I have used a Tekonsha P3 for many years and thousands of miles. I have been very happy with it. Full disclosure, I have minimal experience with other controllers.
John, do you have a local landfill that can weigh your truck. Usually where I weigh in. Also have a decorative rock place that will let me drive on the scale.
