Fighting a "no spark" problem for some time now on a 96 F250, 351 engine. Would appreciate any help or direction to find the answers here in FTE, I know its probably here if I knew how to find it !!
so I will ask a simple question here today. If you have 12VDC on positive side of coil, and you also have it on NEG. side, but no spark as determined by using a test light, and spark indicator, can you simply ground the NEG. side and force a spark ??
9 out of 10 times the ignition module is bad. Is yours on the distributor or the fender? AutoZone and them places can usually test one. As for your question I'm thinking no. If the module is bad it still won't spark.
well sir I appreciate your response. I have the remote TFI which I have replaced twice ! Also has a new coil, distributor, ignition switch and battery. wasn't afraid to throw parts at it as I want to upgrade all components, to help assure reliability. The truck had gotten where it wouldn't start (no spark) often so that's why I approached it this way But now I never get spark so im trying to troubleshoot it logically now ! My abilities are above average I feel, but this is really kicking my but.
also I have verified I have a output from my hall effects to TFI, not getting anything on Start wire at TFI though ?
Sorry I didn't notifications for this thread. Doesn't the lid on the underhood electrical box show which relay is which? All the fuses check good I guess?
If the TFI's are aftermarket I'd be suspicious but even the cheap ones usually work for a month or two
If you hear the fp I'd say ECM relay is fine
SPOUT connector was plugged back in after distributor replacement? Still I don't think an absent SPOUT plug will cause a no-start.
You're positive rotor is spinning? Did it ever run with the replacement distributor? Also, distributor was ordered for appropriate model year I hope? '94 and later 351 needs a hardened dist drive gear for the roller cam

Yes it did ! In fact I was in the process of timing it when it suddenly died, I checked for HE output and noticed it was gone! At that point I replaced distributor again! And have verified I have rotation and 8 volts output to TFI. But as of yet it has not fired since then ??

pretty certain correct distributor, definitely a steel gear.

Uh? You were adjusting the timing like turning the distributor and using a timing light? Don't make sense even if it were out of time it would still fire. Can you explain how when what on the quit running?

yes exactly!I had made a couple minor adjustments, truck was running well. I was simply looking at the timing mark with the light when it just died !No fire since then. And as I said earlier I have replaced the distributor since then ?
