conversion from 6.8 to 5.4

conversion from 6.8 to 5.4

Good morning all, I have an opportunity to get an 08 SD with a hole in the block, and a 5.4 engine from a totaled 04 SD. what kind of issues could i run into doing this swap, Both are automatics, will the 04 v8 bolt up to the 08 tranny? or will i need to swap tranny as wel, motor harness, ECM?? lots of unknowns for me. was the hole in the block a common issue on the V10? is it worth fixing the hole or swapping the block. any input would be great.

A gas engine out of an '04 will be a 2V engine. The V10 is a 3V engine.

The V8 bolts to a 4R100 transmission. The V10 bolts to a 5R110W.

The V10 is throttle by wire. The V8 is throttle by cable.

If you can overcome these issues, it should bolt in.

For the 08 chassis you'll need a 05+ V10 or a 3v 5.4 from similar.

cool, thanks for the info.
my buddy who owns the 08 said the hole in the block was common on the 6.8 but i havent found any info regarding this. have you seen this before?

First I've heard of it. It isn't common, by my knowledge.
