On the one hand, it looks cleaner.

On the other hand, it looks like you had a fender bender and the body shop didn't finish the job.

I test drove a Mustang with a small block. The fender badge said "390". Salesman insisted it was a 390.

No sale....

Way back in the fifties and sixties lots of people would "de-chrome" their cars, filling all the holes to smooth out the look.
Mostly is was just lettering and badges the got the treatment but a lot of cars got the more extreme treatment.
I still think it looks good to de-clutter the overall look of the car.
