I took the '86 out today on the prairie trails along the river today and did some photography. I know hunting season is open and more people are out and about on the trails, but I was disgusted at what I saw. Areas littered with shotgun shells and garbage. These idiots don't even bother to pick up their mess. For christ's sake, it's a WMA. Public lands that are supposed to be open for the public to enjoy, but kept in it's natural state.
I just get so mad when I see these idiots leaving their trash out there (or anywhere for that matter). If you aren't going to try to preserve the land then you don't deserve to have access to it.
I don't understand the whole littering concept. You see cans, bottles, and general garbage all over the roadways. How much harder is it to throw something out in a trash can?
I think the only remedy to littering is strict enforcement. I used to live in the Pacific NW and remember it as almost litter free. At that time (many moons ago) the fine was $500 for throwing something out your window and many fines were levied; it was not a gesture law. I'm in Arizona now and throwing cans and bottles out your car window is considered a state right. Anyhow, I'd like to see those that litter pay through the nose. Ultimately, they disrespect all of us and take our quality of life one notch lower.

I kind of like the litter control they have here in Maine, there aren't any bottles or cans on the roads and stuff because they have a deposit on them. Its $.05 when you buy the bottle or can and some placs will give you $.06 when you bring them back, it works out pretty good.
the worst is the pop bottles filled with urine, i guess some truck drivers (unlike my self) are too much in a hurry to stop and pee on the side of the road. i just cant see how they get it in there, that hole is awful small...
i had someone flick a cigarette out the their window at hwy speed and hit my truck while driving behind them and hit my windshield. i got their plate # and report to the police . they did how ever got a fine for littering the police said.
They started cracking down in Other Bower's hometown a few years ago. It's a popular place for filmmakers and actors and the town decided to improve their image. Sad that it took that kind of influence though.
The first person to get fined $500 was a tourist who threw an empty cigarette pack out the window. The press made an example out of him, but the locals are still slingin' trash like always. And the public dumps are free.
That surprised her when she moved here, that you have to pay to take stuff to the dump. They are all private contractors around here. Where she's from the county runs the landfills and they have employees at the sites to help you put your junk in the right dumpsters. They even have waste oil drums. Yet there is still trash along the roads.
Pet peeve: Cigarette butts. black wolf I'm with you, I've had that happen to me. How hard is it to use an ashtray?

Apparently not very hard. I say this with sarcasm 'cause there are times that I've seen people dump their auto ashtray on the ground. That makes me so mad.
It's like when the guy in the nearby apartment building will carry the garbage bag to the dumpster, but not bother throwing it in, rather he leaves it a few feet away.
we have the .05 cent deposit but people just redeem them and still throw any other type of worthless garbage they can out anywhere but where it should be just to avoid the strenuous effort of taking it to the nearest garbage can...
Every like 3 miles around in the Pacific Northwest theres signs saying "Litter and it will Hurt" then a number to report violators, aparenty throwing a lit ciggerette out the window will land you a $900 fine.
Wow, speaking of littering.. just tonight I was driving home on the highway and some moron threw a soda out the window.. it hit my windshield and splattered all over the car. I was so furious!! This guy can't wait and throw it out when he gets to his destination? If it were glass and damaged my windshield, a phone call to the police would have occurred. Lucky for him it was only paper.
I also hate smokers who feel they have the right to just flick their cigarette butts anywhere they please. I see it all the time. What especially gets me are the ones who put them out on the ground and leave them there right next to a "butt can"... same goes for people who litter right next to a garbage can..
What really bothers me is when my friends and I go out shooting, we usually find our spot totally littered with shot up glass bottles and a ton of other shot up litter left behind. So we always take boxes and plastic trash bags with us and end up spending half the time we could be enjoying ourselves shooting, picking up trash left by other slobs. These slobs make all of us shooters look bad. You'd think they'd take some pride in cleaning up their mess so that those folks who think we are all a bunch of slobs could get an improved attitude when seeing more people picking up after themselves. There is just no excuse for being a pig.
