Today I got home early enough to finally move my current 14K# WD hitch from my Excursion to the new F350. Before moving it I measured top of ball on my Excursion when level(24"), and flipped the shank to accomodate a similar measurement on the F350 because of the higher receiver.
My Excursion has had Firestone Ride Rites on it since new, and my T/H has been the only big trailer it's regularly pulled. 60psi in the bags kept everything tight, and with very little sway for 16 years, and almost 200K miles.
Once I hooked to the F350, it squatted it pretty bad. Too much for my liking. Gonna have to put airbags on this truck.
I wish I could give an accurate tounge weight, but I could only guess(1300-1600#s).
Does all this seem like a normal experience with a new F350? I didn't expect it to squat this much.
How much squat after configuring the WDH? After I have my WDH configured the squat isn't bad at all. The truck is almost level but there is still some rake. My tongue weight can be as much as 1400 lbs.
She sags too much for my liking. My TW guess is probably off a few hundred #'s. 🤣
Changing gears, Airlift kit is this evenings list of purchases. Do the 2nd gen Wireless One or 74000 dual path remotes/app show real time pressure, or just commanded pressure?
I don't have airbags so take my comments with that in mind. You don't NEED to control each side independently. If you had a truck camper (slide-in) it would be very important. But with a bumper pull trailer it isn't as important.
If you have the factory 5th wheel prep you may need to do a little research. I thought that there was an issue with one of the airbag products that had an issue with the underbed components of the 5th wheel prep. I could be wrong.
I got the dual air system off of my mind pretty quickly. Not even my "what if's" were worth going down that road. LOL
Ended up getting the Airlift Wireless One EZ mount compressor. Having the manifold, and pump mounted on a single solid bracket is convenient. They provide a giant u bolt to wrap around a frame rail for attachment, but it's too small to fit around anything on this truck. Ended up just drilling the frame, bolting it up, and wiring it in. Bags show up tomorrow. Haven't had a day off work yet this month. I'm ready to hit the road.
Last, but not least, for the day. A pair of 1/2" hammerlocks so I have something that my safety chains can actually attach to. I think she's ready for the road.
At least until next week, when the Ford trailer cam/TPMS kit shows up.
