Just curious if anyone has tried these Molotov Chrome markers, for touchup on the plastic Chromed bezels, my 67 is still pretty solid, but the chrome on the plastic is rubbed off in multiple spots. They get rave reviews, and are said to be safe on plastic. https://www.dickblick.com/products/m...YaAtaWEALw_wcB
I tried Chrome markers before to try to touch up the chrome on my 72 F250 Bezel, but it looked really tacky. It was not smooth and you can tell it was done with a marker. I was thinking if I could have found chrome paint and a small hobby style brush it would provide better results, but I just spray painted it black and installed a Dakota Digital in
strument cluster instead.
Chrome paint has come a long way recently. I found a test video online that shows how shiny the markers can be. I think it's certainly worth buying the larger (a bit more expensive) marker to see how it works to fill in your bezel.
Test it out one something similar before you do your bezel. Post pics of your results, because I think these might be a great option to buying a whole new bezel.
I found some photos of very impressive results using the Molotow refill ink in airbrush guns.
I tool my dash bezel out to send it in to get rechromed and painted. Then noticed a very small crack on it along the top edge that I did not notice before. Looks like it was overtightened at some point, or just gave out due to tension. Now I'm looking for a replacement.
If anyone has one, I'd definitely interested. One that otherwise looks perfect. The trick is the bezel seems to be very specific to 1967 and so it is a bit more challenging to find. It fits the same as others, looks almost the same, but is not. On the left and right where the black is, it has horizontal lines. The others are plain flat in that area.
You can actually get brand new bezels, but not with the horizontal lines. While this fits the 1967, it is not the same. I'll buy you one of these and throw in extra, if you send me your bezel without cracks!
Here are the places where I'm considering sending it once I find one that is not craked. It requires a very specific method for stripping and rechroming. But from what I'm reading, this can be successful and some of their photos of completed projects look very good. Because I look at the dask bezel everytime I get into the truck, I'd like it to look as nice as everything else. If not nicer. I'm going to do this with the radio bezel as well.
I know this thread is kinda old, but did you ever get, and use that molotow pen? I have one coming in the mail after doing alot of research on chroming my drivers side bezel. Everything I have seen on it as far as results look really, really good. I tried alclad, and also graphite, but wasn't happy with them. The alclad may have been good 10 years ago, but with tech advances of today, it's just really shiny silver paint. Hard to pass for chrome, but better than most. The graphite is awesome, but too dark for a black background. Gloss white behind it looks good though still a bit too dark, and it doesnt hold up too well without a clear coat. Anyhow, just wondering how, or if things went with the pen. Pretty hopeful from what I have seen

I didn’t try it yet, once I removed the bezel I realized I had far more serious issues than the plastic chrome. Every screw had been over tightened, and every single one was cracked. I’m checking out a 68 tomorrow that I bought the bed off of, and while it may be slightly different, if it’s not cracked I’m going to try to buy it. Please post pics of how yours turns out once you get your pen, I’m interested to see how it looks!
So tested a small spot on drivers side bezel with the 2mm pen, and it is totally gonna work out. The chrome really flows out fast, and find it best to just hover the tip over the surface and let it flow onto the work. It seems to self level pretty good, but found it's best to get full coverage in the wettest spot before moving on. Going back to fill a thin spot you just went over gets slightly wavy. Not sure how durable this will be over time, but guess I am gonna find out. More pics once I do the whole thing Pass side factory chrome Drivers side with molotow 2mm pen
My bezel was so far gone that when I painted the interior of my truck I painted the bezel the same color. It really makes the white faced gauges really stand out.
