Any tips on how to revitalize the Dash Bezel?

I painted the interior of the truck and everything is like new except the dash bezel in my 65. I like the look of it but it is really beat up. Can you buy new ones or is there a way to revitalize the original? I will post some pictures of it. Also the gas guage is pegged full. Is that usually the guage shorted out or could there be a problem in the sending unit? Thanks for any help.

By beat up do you mean dented or is the paint just bad (or is it chrome/stainless?). I had my painted bezel powder coated in the chrome look and am very pleased at how it turned out.

Its got that swirl patern and its cracked in one spot that I think I could fix but its just lacks any luster and I have tried to scrub it with simple green with no luck. Its just an ugly spot that is bugging me and I am trying to figure out a way to make it better without spending a lot of $$$$. It looks like its chromed and I know how much it would be to chrome it. Does someone make a repop for these bezels? My guage cluster is got the long skinny Speedometer and two gauges outside of that in the same bezel.

Sorry, I was ASSuming it was an earlier slick. Don't know much about the later dash bezels.

gritsngumbo,
That seems to be the more popular guage. I kind of wish I could find one of them to replace this one with. I guess I need to do with what I have. Thanks anyway for the reply.

This place does the proper replating of them, but it's expensive... $170. I hate making these decisions on a project, trying to justify the cost of all these things, asking yourself how nice do you want it be, or is a silver spray bomb gonna be good enough? A properly refinished bezel would really make the interior stand out though.

If you're talking about the 65/66 Custom Cab "sweep" design, Dennis Carpenter sells new ones for $150.00

Few years back rechomed the plastic instrument panel on my 65 CC. Googled under 'Plastic Rechrome' and started calling to speak to either the shop foreman, or owner and ended up deciding on Quality Mustang to repair the instrument cluster, and pleased with results.

Topic comes up on occasion, suggest try an FTE search, narrow field to the 61-66 forum, seem to recall member's posting sources they had dash rechromed and were pleased with results.

Bookmarked a plastic rechrome shop located in Wash., not familiar with them, if recall bookmared from an article from one of my auto magazines.

Guess lot depends on what you want, I have used expoxy putty, and an aerosol can of paint to repair cracks to instrument panels and steering wheels and they came out.

Thanks for all the info, I think I might go the epoxy and the paint fix. I probably will change my mind tomorrow, today has been a BIG DOLLAR DAY (Exterior Molding, Exterior molding clips and the Seat). Maybe I should wait till the middle of the month when I get paid again then revisit this decision. This truck sure has turned out nice and cheaping out now doesn't make much sence.

If decide to go the 'do it yourselfer' route and have not worked with the epoxy putty, like to suggest use it sparingly, save lots of time when it comes to sanding. Also, found slightly moist makes it easier to work with. Occasionally see them on ebay, picked up a cc cluster spare 3-4 months ago for around $35, as far as I was concerned the gauges were worth that.

I had a couple non-sweep bezels and replaced my sweep with this. Same as above $26 to have it blasted and powder coated in a color called near chrome.

You may just have to bit the bullet on this one. The dash is right there in front of your face and it is the first thing people will notice when looking inside your cab if done up nice. That is why I went with "gcar" in Washington and the result is spectacular. Better than the picture looks.

Swirl pattern? Uh...it's known as ENGINE TURNING in the biz.

The only dash bezel that I know of with this pattern is the 1965/66 F100/250 2WD Custom Cab chromed plastic dash bezel that uses the "sweep" speedo.

C5TZ10876A

However, something some of y'all are forgetting, or maybe you are unaware.

This bezel does not come with the cutouts for the amp and oil pressure gauges, because...

The amp and oil pressure gauges were an option. If you have them, the holes have to be cut out of the bezel to install them, as Ford only supplied this one bezel.

Try here for a replacement = FTE sponsor: carolina-classics.com. They are located in Durham NC.

The trick, from what Ive heard is not overplating it as it buries the light engine turning...PLUS the whole bezel is NOT chrome plated...the inside areas of the speedo and lens gauge areas are argent in color.
