Hey all,
just introducing myself. I'm pretty new to forums and proper etiquette. I'm sure this has been posted about numerous times but I'm gunna be honest I don't have time to go through 3000+ postings. Y'all have a lot to say and all of it is great.
Anywho, back in 2015 I had a 59 and I made a huge mistake getting rid of it before I deployed. Well, the stars have aligned and I am staring at a great Gen 3 for a decent price.
This is where it gets weird, the posting is for a 1959 f100 for $1000. posting says it's a 59 with 4 on the floor and a 292 in it. it needs a lot of work. I got a pic of the VIN because it doesn't have a title and I called my police department and had them run the VIN, homie says it's a 58. After decoding the VIN I realize he was correct in the 58... But also that it shouldn't have the 292 in it.
My question is what's a fair price for this? Either this guy doesn't know what he has or he is grossly misinformed about what he has. Also is it normal for nonstandard engines to be in these old ladies??
I understand it's challenging to speculate on the price without pics. I wish I had some.
He doesn't know what he has. Over time that engine could've been swapped a couple times. I'm surprised he doesn't claim it's a 312! Do you think you can get a title for it?
If it is complete and you can't put your feet thru the floor they way the Flintstones did it is easily worth 1K. Of course, it all comes down to what it is worth to you. If you post the VIN, guys here will decode it or you completely.
292 with a 4 speed is standard for these trucks. It may have started life with a 6 cylinder and someone upgraded. Worth $1000 if you can get a title in your state.
Would be worth a look. Don't know what state or how hard to get a title. CA has a title bond on top of tax and registration fees of around $100. Verify vin on chassis near passenger front tire matches glove box door tag. See if engine turns over. Rebuildable y blocks out here go for around $600.

I have done transfers with a bill of sale here in Oregon but it was only a lost title. Sounds like your on the right path, just be sure the guys on the level and already has the title in his name. If not, maybe you both can go to DMV to straighten it out before plunking down the cash. Best wishes and thanks for serving our country!

Hey, sorry I haven't responded I don't get on here every day. Vehicle is located in Nebraska and the process is pretty easy as long as the vin is on the vehicle. I'm still working on how to get the vehicle to my home but I'm leaving for a month or so. If it's still available when I get home I'll post pictures.
Thank you for your service. In my opinion, $1000 bucks is a good buy (even without the tailgate) whether you can get a title or not. As I'm sure many around here will testify to, these trucks arent getting any easier to find. If you have to shell out a grand for a parts truck, it'll save you thousands once you have one with a clean title to fix up or restore.
Of course I'm also the guy who likes to have rusty things in my yard.... :P

I was able to get a "Bonded" title for my truck in Nebraska. The original was lost. Thanks for serving and good luck.
223 I-6 was standard equipment, 292 2V was optional. 3 speed manual was standard equipment, 3 speed with overdrive (F100 2WD), 4 speed, Ford-O-Matic was optional
