Does anybody know the correct torque for the lugnuts? Could not find a value in the owner's manual and I do not want to warp any rotors. Thanx in advance.
Think I will check my F-150 and wife's Taurus. The Taurus had problems with rotors during warranty but dealer refused to repair claiming normal wear & tear. Mind you these are the same folks who double filled my engine oil on the F-150 for the first scheduled oil change. Took the truck back after leaving the shop and the tech. could not figure out why the truck was suddenly running rough.
Always check what you can after service and do your homework. Try calling the Ford Customer Relations Center @ 1 800 665 2006 there is a good chance they may be able to pull a spec on lug nut torque.
Torque depends on year model. If you have the 12mm studs, you'll need around 100 ft/lbs. If you have the 14 mm studs, it's around 150 ft/lbs. The 14 mm studs were used from 2000 to 2002 (at least, don't know about the '03's).
I have owned many fords and I think this is a commonly over looked point. I have a 98 and I torque the lugs to 100 ft# and have never experianced any problems. I have made note to this many years ago after replacing rotors in my escort 3 times in a year at a repair shop that did not torque the lugs. After I did it I am still on the same rotors, 100,000 + miles later.
