1) That's an old spec. Ford sent a notice to all registered owners, Doc # F81A-17A083-GC, which changes the old 165 ft-lbs to 140-155 ft-lbs. 2) However, this new spec is for the stock flat washer type lug nuts, not for the acorn style lug nuts like I've got on my 5er. 3) My 5er spec is 95 ft-lbs, and if I were to torque those to 165 ft-lbs the acorn style lug nuts would probably crush the wheel and it would fail short order! There's too much stress concentration to torque acorn style lug nuts that tight, IMO!
Didn't read the original post correctly, now I see we are speaking of AFTERMARKET rims and the 165 ft/lbs would be too much for these acorn type of nuts. That much would probably end up cracking the rim over time.
I will stick to the 165 ft/lbs on the original washer type of lug nuts on my truck (using a drop of oil between the net and washer) since the newest shop manuals used by Ford dealers still spec 165 for loaded trucks; 155 otherwise.
