You know that annoying little chime that goes on if you leave your lights on or keys in the ignition? Well mine goes on after everything is turned off and I open the door to get out. When I close the door it stops. I also noticed that the power windows now work when the car is off. It almost sounds like there is still some contact in the ignition after I take the key out. Any thoughts?
I just noticed something else. When I push the open close button in the back of the truck to 1. close and then 2. open the problem went away. The windows no longer worked when the key was out ,the chiming stopped and I could open the all the doors from the dirvers side. (which I couldn't do when the problem occurred)?
This problem has come back up. My wife walked into the garage, and the tape player was playing. The keys were out of the ignition. The other above mentioned items were also happening again. I took it to the dealer and of course because it is an intermittent problem, they can't find anything wrong. Also, my accelerator was sticking and they said it was a throttle body and would cost 583 to replace. Sound legit?
Pull the covers from around your steering column and look at the back side of the ignition lock cyl. There should be a little single (black?) wire connected to the lock cyl. Is it connected? Is it loose? These break the small plastic tabs off and bounce around and when they ground out on something in the column they give your symtoms. Not sure if that should affect acc's but it will activate the chimes with the key out. ( it is the "key in/out switch)
That all depends on how bad you really want that circuit to work like it's supposed to and if you can turn a screwdriver or not. Under the column there are three phillips screws to be removed, then you can pull the shrouds out of the way and see in there. If this is indeed broken and you want to change it you have to buy a complete clock-spring harness.( just for that one connector, I know) They run about 75.00
If you find that this is your problem and don't want to spring for the clock, you can cut the connector, put a drop of silicone on the end of the wire so it dont ground and leave. You just won't have any warning when you lock your keys in there or leave your lights on.
