P24A0 DPF Temperature Control Fault Code

I have a 2016 Ford F-350 6.7 with 80,135 miles. At around 38K Ford replaced under warranty the DPF Filter .

Went out today to get an inspection sticker and Failed. Had a OBD Permanent Fault Code P24A0. I really don’t want to go to Ford and spend a ton of money on getting this fixed. What are my options?

Limited since you need a sticker, you'll have to get it in somewhere to troubleshoot. If you have a reputable diesel engine shop that works on Ford pickups (has IDS), that's an option I use. It could be a sensor issue such as EGT11-14. The PCM monitors EGT12 to confirm the DOC exit exhaust temps are high enough to complete an active regeneration and the difference (expected vs actual) cannot exceed 68°F. I think this code is temp too low. If this were my truck, I would drive it to operating temp, park at home, shutdown, clear the code (KOEO) and then command a stationary manual regeneration (in a safe, open and well ventilated area; things get really hot and loud). If that is successful (the soot gpl is burned down quite a bit) and the DTC returns, it would go to a shop where the techs have far more experience than what little I know.

What is your daily driving like? What are the ambient temps like this past week in your area? Any EGR cooler issues? Two DPFs (the entire unit is DOC/SCR/DPF) in 80k is not good, these are around $4,500 to replace.

The OBDII from Ford shows EGT 11-14 are ok and not bad.

Picking up my 2015 from the dealerr today, had the P24A0 code. Ended up being a bad injector, they replaced them all to the tune of $7500, which the 100K engine warranty paid for.

Injectors are on the list as one possible item to troubleshoot if I remember. It's interesting though if one or more injectors are causing that much of an issue, that there isn't also a DTC for the faulty injector(s).

The truck is running like a top. I pull a dump trailer with a S300 Bobcat on it with no problems. I do a lot of in town driving. There was a couple of times I didn’t let the truck go thru a whole regen. On the dash a light piped up telling me to drive. But I have done a couple of nice hour long drives on the highway and the truck did a full regen and it seemed to help. My truck is stock and I have a Edge CTS monitor in my truck. Tells me the percentage on the DPF and when it’s in a regen. I hope it is t anything crazy. I really do like the truck.

If the EGT sensors check out ok, more than likely injectors. Will be covered under the 100K power train warranty. Mine were.

You can use the Edge CTS to perform a stationary regen if needed instead of having to drive to clean.

The truck goes through it’s normal regens. The % of soot was like 3% right now. I know that the CTS can do Manual regens that I have done before. I got this CTS to monitor the regens and the % of soot. I’m bring the truck to Ford to diagnose the fault code. I just hope it’s a faulty sensor and not the fuel injectors.

Again, injectors should be covered under 100K powertrain warranty. Hope it works out for you.

When you got your repairs done on the fuel injectors how long did it take to get your truck back?

I hope it’s one of the sensors on the DPF Filter.
