EGR, needed or not
While working on my truck, I pulled the EGR valve off. While inspecting the valve, noticed the place where the exhaust pipe connects is all corroded.
If that part of the valve is supposed to move up or down, this one could not because it is stuck in place from the corrsion.
So does this truck require a EGR valve or not?? 1989 F-150 300-6

The short answer is yes. In computer controlled applications it is difficult to remove. I assume you would have to reflash the computer to get the system to run correctly without it. I don't know much about your year range, may get better information in the bricknose section. But generally when you pull an emissions component the computer locks the timing down and goes into limp home mode. This drastically affects fuel economy. But like I said, I'm not familiar with your particular system.
