I am new here, I just purchased a 1996 F250 460 with 70k on it. The truck was registered in Flagstaff Az, which doesn't require emissions. I live in Phoenix and from everything I've been reading I will need an EGR valve to pass emissions. I've looked everywhere as to how to add an EGR valve but I cannot find anything on it. The previous owner did provide me with the EGR valve, pipe that connects to the EGR valve and an electronical connection(don't know if it goes to the EGR) . But I don't know whatelse I'm missing.
I passed the sniffer with no egr and a modern 3 way cat. I thought I'd fail, but I tried it anyway for poop & gigs because I didn't feel like welding a pipe to the long tubes if I didn't have to.
You need the DPFE sensor and the hoses that run to the EGR tube. They are made of high temperature silicone. This provides the EGR flow feedback to the computer.
