4R100 Overdrive Burnt
I have a 99 F-350 with a 4r100 that I just pulled out because the front seal was leaking on the pump. While I was in there i decided to check the clutch packs and found overdrive severely overheaded but all of the other clutch packs were in perfect shape, could still read the print on the others. I have a new o/d clutch pack and intend on putting the trans back together this weekend but wanted to understand why I lost o/d first and what to look for while I have it apart. I have rebuilt one successfully once but its different tearing down a working transmission and diagnosing one. Any help would be much appreciated.

The only thing that I can think of is that the truck was working at or above it's maximum rating and was shifting in and out of overdrive frequently. This will overheat and burn the overdrive clutch.
