I have a 2004 6.0 that’s new to me. Really liking it so far but I need some muffler experience.
it currently has a 4” straight pipe with no cat or muffler. Additionally, it has a KC stage 2 turbo, injectors, etc. it pushes 33# or so of boost at max.
I am not a loud vehicle person. I have already put sound deadener on the inside roof, sides, and floors and also used extra plush carpet and may when I redid the interior. Although it’s MUCH better than it was, I want to go one more step.
At 1500-1700 rpms, cab noise is really quiet. 1700-2200, it has some drone, but above 2300 or so, it starts to get nasty. I dont mind the 2500+ range too much because I really don’t put my foot in it that ofter. However, my goal is to get the 1700-2300 sweet spot as quiet as possible.
I know there will be some give and take between a muffler and power loss/mpg but I have plenty of power and don’t mind a little loss if I can get it quiet.
for those that had a similar situation, what was your solution, brand, model, etc?
My Excursion is 100% stock, exhaust included... Wish I could make my have more of that "rappy" diesel sound when I get on it some, and hear the turbo more. What's a good recommendation for a cheaper muffler to add a little bit of sound to it, without being obnoxious?
I read a post about the Corsa dB muffler. It's a for a 4" pipe, designed for trucks and has their resonance sound cancelling technology. I have a Corsa cat back on my 2002 Corvette Z06 and it's brutally loud when I want but quiet as a churchmouse at cruise. I'm considering getting the Corsa can for my 7.3 to kill my highway drone. It's around $400.
