84 bronco srod
Can you use the shifter turret and forks from another transmission for the srod?
And does anyone here have any decent references that I can use for some more rebuilding help?
The one I'm working on has a bad rear bearing that needs replaced. I have been able to take the front one out and get the shift rods removed, but I'm having trouble with the shift forks coming out.
I found a youtube video of a t-176 rebuild that is very similar to the srod and an exploded view diagram of the parts for a 2wd version which I imagine is not that dissimilar to the one I'm using.
The reason I ask about the shifter stuff is because having a more forward mounted shifter would be more ideal for the vehicle it's going in, and I think the reassembly would go smoother too.
Anyway, I have gone on long enough so I appreciate any insight that anyone might be willing to provide
Thanks
Dustin
Beyond that, you might be able to find the exploded view through parts suppliers.
Like so, or just go after the specific parts:

I dont necessarily need the shifter more forward, the difference would be negligible to the effect and application. I was curious just because of so much of the similarity to other transmissions built on the same platform. As far as replacing the top cover goes, all the images i found on websites of the different gaskets seem to have all matching bolt patterns. Im not going to go out of my way to try and find another transmission or start buying things online, but if i go to a junk yard ill bring an old gasket to see if there is any interchange. I was mostly curious if the difference in fork arrangement would work being as one goes in from the top and the other goes in from the side, that and to remove the SROD forks you have to knock the roll pins out so you can remove the rods.
Either way, thank you again,
Dustin
On the rail I think it is part of the tail housing, not close to mine at this time to look, but I would think if it came from a truck they would be all the same.
I think they used them in cars so maybe that would be different?
