Greetings to all.I am not a Bronco II guy so my question may be a little vage. I am helping a friend with his little girls Bronco. Its an 87 w/ a 5speed standerd transmition, I can't tell you which one but the shift ball has 1,2,3,4,D,R on it if that helps. The shifter is very sloppy and wont come out of 1st. I pulled the shifter out and found the housing which bolts to the trans. cracked and a small peice broken out, it's plastic. Could this be the trouble? If so can it be rebuilt? It doesn't look like it can. The part in the trans. w/ the pocket for the shifter I think is still in 1st gear, can I move it to try to see if the trans. still shifts?
OK last one and I don't know if I have enough info for this one. Does it have a hyd. clutch? I didn't see a resivor for the fluid. She said that before it broke it was getting hard to shift.
It should have the Mitsubishi FM145 or FM 146 trans. I believe the shifter is no longer available, so that's why any good ones are already gone from the salvage yards. Try checking with ford. All rangers/B2's have a hydraulic clutch. The reservoir is mounted to the right of the brake booster, up high on the fire wall. The slave cylinder is integral with the throw out bearing inside of the bellhousing.
If the clutch disengauges, then you can slide the shift rail forward to get out of first. (The rail moves the opposite direction of the shift throw.)
i've got an '86 bronco ii with an fm 145 5 speed also...SAME problem with my shifter - found that the problem was with the shifter, not the transmission & am having trouble finding a replacement shifter also! Has anyone found any new info on parts for this model & trans???
