Unibody Bed Floor Replacement
With my project I almost completely dismantled the rear bed. I left the left fender, wheel well and rear corner panel assembled (free from the cab) and cut the spot welds on everything else. The bed floor on my truck was crunched on the right side and rusted through along the front, the left front extension was also rusted through. I purchased a Pros Pick floor, it is a rolled ribbed, no end taper and the ribbing did not match the ford ribbing in height or spacing. I would have to weld pockets in the ribs for the bolt holes to line up with the frame.
Used a straight edge and circular saw with abrasive blade to cut to length and cut the tapers and hole saw to cut recesses for bed mount holes.
Finished the cuts with a jig saw.
Welded in the filler strips.
Used this fixture to bend the rib pocket sides.
The pocket bottoms were tacked with the floor bolted in place.
Fitting the pocket sides. Square holes were cut in the the bottoms for the carriage bolts used to bolt the bed to the frame.
Ready to be welded.
My cab was real solid but the driver latch pillar and rocker panel end was damaged and need replacing with used parts. I designed the bed corner panels from the original pieces and had and a local sheet metal fabricator make them. They made 3 out of the 4 corners. I should have pre-fitted all the parts before installation, I had to splice and dice the last corner panel to make it fit.
I have extra corner bed floor corner panels and the drawings if anyone is interested.
It looks like you have quite a project underway.
In a former post somewhere here on FTE, I believe another member mentioned the bed floor from the 2008(?) Ford Super Duty Shortbox box is a very good candidate for a replacement ford floorpan for our shortbox unibody trucks.
There were dimensions and even a factory part number if I remember correctly(?),,.
Maybe Number Dummy can provide a Box Floor Pan number as reference?
It seems you are beyond that point with the work you put into your box floor to go another route now.
Do you have before-and-after photos of your truck as you broke it down for restoration?
Your work looks very clean and deliberate with much forthought.
Looking forward to more progress photos and updates.
Best of luck on your project - Pete
