Repair of the rheostat is pretty easy. Open the plastic cover carefully and you see where the needles rides. That area is just worn out. Use a dremel on low speed with a soft brush. I used a brass brush very briefly to expose new contact area. It will shine when you are through the coating. i just barely bent the needle to make good contact on the new area as it was easier than moving the board which is your other option.

Hang in there for a while, they might get restocked.
They were out before and got another shipment in.

When they do, this time Iam ordering a few...for sure.

Edit: Just checked with Gas Tank Depot, and they have the 85 - 86
yr truck senders. Just ordered 2 and 2 Shower Heads.
think it was $225

Ok, been a while..I replaced both tanks on my '84 with '85 tanks, the sending units are larger. (3 inch diamater) There are '84 tanks available, but no new sending units (2 inch diameter)..can send them to TriState Radiator? in NY for a rebuild, ( email addy is sendingunitguy@gmail.com) or go with the '85 tanks and sending units... Got my sending units from Gas Tank Depot...they have both front and rear sending units for a 1985 model...FMSU-6DE and FMSU-6DER
