That trailer doesn't weigh any more empty than a lot of the 5th wheel camping trailers people pull all the time. Trailer is appx 10k lbs plus a couple k for the dolly.
The main thing I would figure is the truck is not licensed high enough for the total gross weight and no DOT approved hitch. Possible the driver is not licensed for air brakes and combination vehicles. The driver needs a good lawyer that knows DOT rules.
This looks dangerous, but if the driver knows what he is doing and uses the trailer brakes to do most of the stopping, it's really all not that bad, though I would hate to be in high cross winds or a panic stop in that rig.
You're absolutely right! None of them are former truck drivers, none of them have been trained in commercial vehicle safety/enforcement, nor have any of them been trained in commercial vehicle accident investigation.
In most cases the OPP will do the initial pull-over if they suspect something is wrong, then they will call in the MTO, to inspect the vehicle for safety violations. The MTO also man the weigh stations and do spot checks and set up mobile inspection stations.
Just a question, since the author of the article is so well versed in various trucks, and doesn’t know whether the tow rig is a half ton, 3/4 ton, or a 1 ton SRW......does anyone here KNOW that the driver was not just moving the trailer up the street 100 feet at 10 MPH to get some repairs done?
As previously stated, there is a lot here that we DON’T know.
Was this translated? With the post it accompanied, and it’s grammar, it doesn’t make sense. Auto-correct issue?
In regard to the truck in the opening post, I would like to know more.
I am french speaking , so I don't have perfect grammar. You got the point tho , ordinary police officer are not DOT and they don't understand transport law. Also Canada and US are not the same. I live in Quebec , just on the other side of the river from ottawa. Here if my truck is plated for private use , I can do pretty much want I want and get away with it. 90% of the trucks here are overweight and payload nobody heard about that

Thats what I was thinking, just wanted to let you clear it up. As a LEO, I fully agree with you. In my area, we work every case ourselves. It ends up with a lot of “jack of all trades, master of none”. People tend to gravitate toward what they have interest in. Often, the bosses encourage this with specialized training and leeway to do more in that area. For me, the last few years have been dedicated to human trafficking and DOT. However, those aren’t my only job, I have to take care of everything I catch. Last year, my biggest case was a double homicide.

Yeah sorry , it was not meant in a negative way towards police officer. They can't know every law but I've got a couple of cases witch was ridiculously misinformed on their part

Well, some are idiots. Unfortunately. Like every profession.
