how about a picture of your engine or maybe the trucks VIN ,
you've got 9 manuals, at this point I wouldn't trust a manual to tell you what engine you have, I didn't know the difference between and IDI and a powerstroke before I bought my truck either but it made me spend a lot of time reading previous posts to even begin to understand my truck (and my OD light still flashes occasionally!)
if you're worried about expenses, you need to cut your losses now and get something reliable and help your daughter, you don't need to be worrying about fixing a vehicle,
Actually the OP said his 8th Digit from the VIN is K.....
M - 7.3L (445 CID) V-8 Diesel
F - 7.3L DI Turbo (445 CID) V-8 Diesel
K - 7.3L IDI Turbo (445 CID) V-8 Diesel
so assuming the engine was not changed .. it is an IDI Turbo ... 5 extra Horse Power with all that additional Crap
would have been Cheaper to just add a B&S engine to it
However it may still have the OBD-2 connector within 3 feet of where the driver sits but will not be Functional. the OBD-1 aka VIP connector is still under the hood in the Left corner.
it would probably be cheaper to repair the transmission than running out to get something "Reliable" either way it's gonna cost money.... buying a used car seems to be always buying someone else's problems.
I wasnt going by the manuels. I was going by those 2 pictures you sent. Cut my losses forget that i got the truck knowing id have to put some $ into it. I only had to put down $300 and paid $1000 total and my plan was to get a camper and get it going for the summer. So whats a good price to get a transmission rebuilt out your way?
My daughter and I enjoy working on it out in the rain. I hope you can see that. What else can you tell from the VIN#? I'm enjoying working on it. My daughter does as well she'll sit in the rain while she helps me..

Down here it is between 1200 and 3500 bux ... just a Master rebuild kit of good quality will run about 5 or 6 Hundred bux, but that will not cover the torque converter or any other Hard Goods you might need, and you won't 100% know all what you need until you tear it down, sometimes you can find a Good Used one ... talk to your local Tranny shops.

as Far a Kits go I suggest using one of the Master Repair kits that will include updates, Now is the time to think about what you want out of your Transmission.. I'm pretty sure you do not want it just Patched up so you end up doing this again in a few thousand miles.
