I like the looks of the spray in liner much better but, as in the case of George C, the tonneau cover is on 99.9% of the time. I showed my wife trucks with the spray in liner and she did not want it as she wanted to maintain the ability to easily slide stuff around in the bed while standing at the open tailgate (she uses a paint roller frame mounted to a long handle to retrieve stuff). Better for me too as I slide in a 1/2" thick steel plate for extra weight in the winter. I would have to come up with a different way to install if the liner was spray in.

Spray in, at least in the case of line x or Ford spray-in, has very little friction. I have a drop-in in one truck and spray-in the other, items slide very easy on both surfaces. The spray-in, because of it's hard texture, can potentially do more surface damage to items placed in the bed, whereas the plastic drop-in is less likely to.

After a few using a few different option in the last 6 to 8 years (a couple of self sprayed Raptor liners, a Bedrug, a drop in plastic with rubber mat) I elected to combine a couple of methods for the most recent truck. I decided to go simple as I was not hiring anything done, I was doing it myself. The truck generally does not have anything heavy in the rear other than an occasional small pallet with 3-400 pounds of aluminum seamless gutter coil on it.
Found a brand new Ford drop in liner for $100 from a guy who was getting a spray in. Added a Bedrug mat & tailgate protector. Like the above quote, my tonneau is on and closed 99% or more of the time. The only thing that I keep toward the front of the bed is a milk crate with tow chain, straps & hooks. The very few, if ever times I need that I can pull it back with a hook or flip the tri fold cover up and get it.

I was going to get the OEM spray in liner. But after reading they don’t prep it first, I’ll probably skip it and do Monstaliner myself. I’ve had good luck with it in the past. I just coated my Jon boat with it, and it looks great. It’s also tintable to just about any color. Since I haul a truck camper a good bit, I’ll put a rubber bed mat on top of that.
