1959 f100 styleside

Howdy everyone,
I am looking at purchasing a 1959 f100 styleside that’s listed for sale near me. I have gone to look at it once and it has a 223 engine in it and drives shifts and stops well. It has some rust in the bed and door as well as the tailgate would need to be replaced

since I do not own it I would rather not post pictures of the truck. Now I would like to know is what I should look out for on this truck. Is there anything in particular worth noting that would be a turn away from purchasing it aside from the obvious?

The rust for sure. Fenders bottom rear, cab floors, corners, cab mounts, step wells. If you can weld patch panels it isn't a deal breaker but can be a bargaining tool.

I would also get under and check the frame real good for rust thru. Surface rust is ok but flaking or rust holes I would walk unless you have plans to put a different frame under it.
As John said can you do the work on patches or needs to be farmed out? If you can do any work that is needed great but if you need to farm out it will run into $$$$ so something to think about.

Yes I would be able to patch body rust holes if needed. So I’m seeing that it’s mostly rust to worry about, anything mechanical that would cause it to not be worth repairing?

Mechanics are pretty basic. The frills in those days were limited. Like if a deluxe custom cab it can have a heater. If it is running check lights, horn, etc. 60 year old wiring after all. The 223 was a durable work horse. You won't win any races but can be a fun cruiser.
