Hey guys I own a 2001 f350 7.3 truck is just rolling over 370,000km bone stock. Has been running good and strong but then three days ago I went to merge onto the highway and got up to speed and the truck lost engine power and started running very rough and shaking allot and an engine light came on. I tuned it on and then off and the light was gone and It was running normally so I drove it home and started looking into tranny problems. Then today I went for a drive and it happens again so i turned it on and off and it was fine again so I drove it home when I was going up the hill to my house it lost engine power again and shut off. I turned it back on and it was running fine again
Check this and check the main wiring harness to 42 pin connector over the driver side valve cover. Sometimes the wires will rub through the coating and cause an intermittent problem like you are having.
Inside the fuel tank there are 2 screens that can get clogged with debris. This starves the engine of fuel under heavy acceleration. A quick test for this condition is to disconnect the fuel line from the rear of the pump and blow shop air back thru to the tank. That blows the gunk off the screens. Remove the fuel cap first so the pressure has somewhere to go. If that clears off the screens it will run properly under heavy acceleration until the screens get clogged again. Look into Hutch and Harpoon mods to cure that problem forever.
Very similar to what I had experienced earlier this year. Check for water intrusion into the IDM. Here's a picture reference to the location of the IDM.
