rear end sagging

Scince the day I bought my truck, about a 2 months ago, the rear drivers side has been lower than the passenger side. Not just a little bit lower, but significantly lower. Atleast three or four inches. I changed all the shocks, so that cant be the problem. Could it be the leaf? Any ideas on this would be much appreciated, as always.

I have a 99 PSD and mine has been like that for several years and nobody has been able to tell me why. Maybe this thread will give us some answers.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a suggestion. I'd get under the truck, and start comparing measurements between the two sides. I'd check to see if the box is mounted the same on both sides, and whether there might be a spring issue on the right side. Somewhere along the line, you'll find the difference between the two sides, and will then be able to go about rectifying the problem.
Good luck.

I had a sag problem in the front. Called Ford. They asked what the spring code was. Told to return the next day and they would replace the front springs. Took'm less than 2 hours.
You may have the same problem going in the rear.

Your "leafs" are leaf springs. If you have a crack in one of the l. rear leafs you lose that springs effect on the spring pack so the spring pack as a whole will be weaker.

Don't replace parts until you figure whats going on. Why waste the money? On level ground measure the height off ground to the center of each wheel well. Then compare the findings. You could also measure the frame to axle distance on each side and compare results. I've found measuring the body to be most tell tale. If you have any more than 3/4" (Ford tolerance), you'll definately notice it. If the numbers are out, the a trip to the Ford dealer is in store. Show them the findings too. Good luck

I was inspecting the rear end once again and found something off. The drivers side rear tire looked a little low. So I dug out the preasure gauge and it read only 20 psi. 45 pounds lower than it should have been. Odd because I just had the tires put on three weeks ago at my local sears. Now im wondering if its leaking or the mechanics didnt inflant the tire correctly. Well, problem solved. Thanks again everyones advice..

If you want to check the rear springs you will have to measure the from eye to eye. Springs that are defective will lose there arch. If the measurement between the eyes (where the bolts go through on each end) are different the truck will sag. This means the springs have lost their arch and the one with the longest measurement will be the one worn. You may need to replace both as the new spring will be fresh and have even more arch than the one that is apperently not worn.

Would have been funnier if you had replaced the leaf first.
